Iceland Airwaves 2016 – Day 5

Day 5 of Iceland Airwaves started with me waking up a 0-dark-30 with a massive sore throat, the start of a cold.  We’d already been traveling for about 10 days and spending a lot of time outside in the cold (and sometimes wet), so it was probably just a matter of time until I got worn out enough to catch something.  Mrs. Life in the Vinyl Lane was in the same boat, and as a result we didn’t do a whole heck of a lot on the festival’s last day.

We rolled back over to KEX Hostel in the early evening and caught a couple of good DJ sets before heading over to Húrra for the remainder of the evening, as we didn’t bother with getting PJ Harvey tickets.  The on-venue night opened with an interesting organ-based experimental set by Magnus Johann (above), much of which was solo though at times he was also accompanied by a stand-up bass.  I enjoyed the set, though the more chill style combined with beer and cold medicine left me struggling badly.  Magnus was followed by the prog rockers Helgi Jons, further putting me into a daze that I simply couldn’t shake.  So despite my best attempt (Holly didn’t even have enough in the tank to try… she called it a night after KEX), I didn’t make it the distance to see Agent Fresco that night – my body and brain just needed some sleep.

Damn I’m getting old…
