Sussman Lawrence - “Pop City”

Synths?  Check.

Saxophones?  Check.

White pants?  Check.

Welcome to 1984.

1984 was a pretty important year for me musically.  Consider - Van Halen thought enough of it to name an album after the year.  An album that might have been the first LP that I ever bought, and which I played the first three songs of over and over and over and over again.  I’m not even sure I knew it had a B side.

But this post isn’t about 1984.  It’s about 1984.  And Sussman Lawrence, the five piece from Minneapolis and their pop-rock double album fittingly named Pop City.  I found this the other day when digging through the chaos of the moving sale of my local record shop, Vortex, and it seemed like a good fit to what I’ve been into late, which is synthy 80s goodness.  Now, Pop City is way more pop than synth (see “saxophones”), but it’s still fun music.

I don’t even want to write a lot about Sussman Lawrence.  I just want to listen to it and enjoy it.  Screw it.  I’m getting a cocktail…
